Monitoring and Assessment

Elmhurst School for Boys

We have a structured assessment programme which runs throughout the year as follows:

  • Tests are held at the end of the Autumn Term and full examinations in the second half of the Summer Term.
  • We hold a Parents Evening for all year groups approximately 4 weeks into the Autumn Term. This allows time for the boys to settle into their new classes and for parents and teachers to assess the boy’s progress early in the new academic year. This is followed with written reports which are issued to parents before the end of Autumn Term.
  • In the Spring Term, a written “Interim Report” is issued ahead of the half term break for the Upper School and then a Form Teacher report is issued ahead of the end of term. There are also a series of Curriculum Evenings for parents during the Spring Term.
  • In the Summer Term a full written report is produced before the end of term and following the issue of these reports there are full Parents Evenings held, allowing parents and teachers to discuss the boys performance through the year and the prospects for the year ahead.
  • In addition, the Lower School hold weekly “Open Afternoons” where parents are welcome to come and see the son’s teacher and classroom.

Whilst we have this system in place, we encourage parents to feel confident in approaching the school about any aspect of the son’s education at any time of the year.
