Liddington update 26/5/10 @ 10.00am
We have arrived safely on Tuesday and after a quick look around the site we were staight into activities! Climbing and Archery for Group 1, Trapeze and Fencing for Group 2 and Fencing and Trapeze for Group 3.
A large cloud of Lynx carried us into the evening meal which was followed by group activity called "Wacky Races" followed by a "monster" game of football featuring the silky skills of both Mr South and Mr Svarovsky. A hotly disputed 9 - 9 draw was the final result.
Bed time was interesting, some very blurry eyes this morning suggested large amounts of midnight snacks and little sleep!
Everyone up this morning, how long do some boys take in the shower!!!
Everyone passed muster in the room inspection this morning, having had a hearty breakfast the boys are all out on morning activities.

Elmhurst are the Champions!
Having recently won the SE England Regional Championships, Elmhurst were through to the National Finals, in which 24 teams were drawn from various competitions around the country. Teams from as far away as Hull, Newcastle, Sunderland, Bournemouth and Sherbourne made the long journey to Stoke-on Claire in Suffolk.
Unfortunately, Elmhurst started their tournament conceding a goal within the first minute of their opening game; this however was the last time they conceded a goal for the rest of the tournament. Having drawn their first two group matches, Elmhurst followed with three very emphatic victories to win their group. Elmhurst then won their quarter final 1-0. The top four teams now met in the semi finals and here Elmhurst beat Gosfield 2-0, in the process breaking Gosfield’s 48 game unbeaten run!
In the final, Elmhurst played Highclaire, a team from Sutton Coalfield. With impressive teamwork, Elmhurst controlled the game from the start, scoring within the first couple of minutes. Having played some of their best football during this game, once they notched their second goal, the result was never in doubt….ELMHURST ARE NOW ISA SCHOOL NATIONAL CHAMPIONS! An amazing achievement! Well done to all boys and Mr Svarovsky.

Judo Champion
Our congratulations go to Clement Li Raphael who has recently become Judo Champion for South-East England (8 - 9years old). Well done Clement!
Rugby
March has been a busy month for rugby. We have had fixtures across all age groups, with some fantastic success. Year 3 played Caterham School in a mini rugby festival at Old Whitgiftians. Though both our A and B team played with a fantastic attitude and kept trying hard throughout each game, they came up against strong and well organised Caterham teams and in the end were beaten.
Year 4 travelled away to Caterham school and produced a commendable performance to draw with the Caterham A team in a well fought out match. Meikhi, Ben and Daniel all linked up beautifully to provide strong bursts for Elmhurst and Clement and Samuel powered forward to score great tries. The final score was Elmhurst 15 Caterham 15.
Any rugby we play at Trinity is always a very tough affair and when we went to play Trinity B, we were ready for a tough game. The boys utilised their pace and hard running and were able to beat Trinity 35 - 0. An outstanding performance!
The annual U11 tournament at Caterham was held on Saturday 6th of March. Through a gallant effort in their group matches, the boys found themselves in the semi final of the plate competition. With ferocious running and tackling Kieran Billington was often able to turn defence into attack and he was named our man of the tournament. Although, we put together another outstanding effort in this game, unfortunately Elmhurst was unable to win.
On Saturday 13th March, the U10’s travelled to Cumnor House School to play in another Rugby tournament. Our group proved to be a tough one, as two of the three teams we played in this part of the tournament went off to play in the final. The boys held their own against these tough teams and improved their game in each match. We put all our effort into playing New Beacon and were able to win 25 -0. Special mention should go to DouJaun and Joseph, who were outstanding in all our matches, but our man of the tournament was our scrum half, Malachi who simply played his heart out and seemed to be everywhere on the pitch!
On Monday 15th March, the U11 boys were entered in a rugby 7’s competition. On first glance at our group before the day, I knew we were going to be up against some very tough competition. To the boys credit, they were not overwhelmed by this and all played exceptionally well. Coming second of 5 in our group, we moved onto the semi final of the main competition; we were unable to overcome this however and finished 3rd overall in the competition. A pleasing result in our first ever 7’s competition!
Our season culminates this Monday when the U11 team play Trinity A at Sandilands on Monday evening. The boys kick off at 4pm and any support is very welcome.
