Elmhurst Alumni: Abhiram’s Journey

Abhiram left Elmhurst in 2016 and now attends Saint Olave’s Grammar School for Boys, where he enjoys being a part of the VEX Robotics team and the school Cricket team, as well as continuing his love of music, which began at Elmhurst.

Read our Q&A with Abhiram, below:

Which years did you attend Elmhurst?
2010 - 2016 (Year 1 - Year 6)

Which Secondary School did you attend after Elmhurst?
Saint Olave’s Grammar School for Boys, Orpington

What have you done since leaving Elmhurst and what achievements are you most proud of?
Since leaving Elmhurst, I am most proud of achieving my Grade 5 in the Violin and working towards Grade 3 Saxophone, which I started at Elmhurst. Furthermore, I am practicing for my Grade 4 LAMDA as well as being a regular member in the school Cricket team. In addition, being part of the VEX team at Saint Olave's has given me an opportunity to explore Robotics, which I have been interested in since Primary School. Finally, a geography poster I have made about Kuwait, has been selected to represent my Year group in a Royal Geographic Society competition.

At Saint Olave’s, I enjoy participating in the Chamber Orchestra (Grade 5) as a violinist. I have also been selected to submit a Lower Project Qualification (LPQ) which allows me to develop as an inquisitive and independent learner and also allows me to explore a new area of study, of my choice. My LPQ will be on Leukaemia and allows me to further my personal aspirations for study and career development.

In what ways did Elmhurst prepare you for life?
Elmhurst gave me the confidence to try anything that interested me and taught me about the great feeling of achieving something that you are enthusiastic about. It showed me how rewarding hard work and working with others can be and the qualities of being a good leader amongst others; for example being a House Captain for the best House, Peachell!

What is your fondest memory of your time at Elmhurst?
What can I say; so many scenarios to mention! Elmhurst was a family for me; everyone is always welcoming, so don’t be nervous if you are new to the school. I used to love the big group events like sports days, plays and performances, trips and Sport fixtures. I can also think of enjoyable moments in lessons with each and every teacher. Another fond memory was the residential trip in Mill Rythe where I did Rock Climbing with the teachers.

How would you sum up your experience at Elmhurst?
Elmhurst prepared me for future challenges by helping me to develop my confidence, and helping me to become hardworking and not to be afraid of taking risks.

I am really proud to have been part of the Elmhurst family and the school's long-standing history.
