International Day Celebrations

Elmhurst School for Boys

10th July 2014

Brilliant fun was had by all at the third Elmhurst International Day, on Tuesday 1st July.

The playground was awash with bright colours fashioned by boys, parents and staff wearing different national costumes from around the world. Everyone was excited about what the day would hold and which places they would be able to visit with their unique Elmhurst Passports!

The boys rotated around various exciting activities in the morning and learned a range of different skills, from making loom band bracelets (USA) and Bollywood dancing, to Brazillian capoeira and Dutch Korf Ball. All of the staff and many parents came to help out and some parents were even brave enough to try their hand at African drumming.

After lunch, our Show and Tell assembly showcased some of the wonderful things that everyone had been doing and Miss Dawson also announced the winners of the Football Kit Design competition, tied in to the FIFA Word Cup. There were so many incredible entries with some wonderfully creative designs. Each entry received one house point, with those who were awarded a Certificate of Commendation gaining three house points and a small prize.

In second place came Aral in 1P and Chinonso in Year 4 who received 10 house points each and a football boot full of treats. A huge well done to our 1st place winners Vivek  in Year 4 and Freddie in Year 2 who loved their football prizes. Well done boys!

Miss Wilks was also delighted to win the staff category.

The overall house points for the competition were:

Squire and Peachell - 31 points
Anderson - 39 points
Scott - 52 points

All of the competition entries can be seen on display in the hall and around the school.

Fortunately the weather held out and we were able to have our infamous Food Fiesta in the sunshine, in the afternoon. There were so many delightful dishes to choose from and the atmosphere was buzzing, as staff, parents and children mingled in the playground.

International Day was again fantastic. Mr South said that he would like to bottle it all up and send it around the world, so other people could learn from everyone here at Elmhurst.

Miss Dawson would like to say a special thank you to the team at Elmhurst for pulling together and ensuring the day was a success.

Thank you to all of the staff and parents who came to help out.
