Reception learn about the Butterfly Life Cycle

Elmhurst School for Boys

10th June 2016 | Early Years

Reception have been learning about different animal life cycles during our topic lessons on nature.

We have been very lucky to have very own caterpillars in class, which has meant we have been able to watch every stage of the butterfly life cycle with our own eyes. The children were very excited to watch the caterpillars eat and eat and get bigger and bigger and turn into cocoons.

The caterpillars then hatched into beautiful butterflies and the children fed and watched them for a couple of days before releasing them.

These are the boys’ thoughts….

What was the best part of having the butterflies?

Aren: "When the butterfly went on Areebs hand"

Max: "When they flew away"

Aadi: "When they move their wings and fly"

Fionn: "When they butterflies flew really high"

Arien: "Letting the butterflies go"

What have you learnt about the butterfly lifecycle?

Sam: "When a buttefly lays an egg it turns into a caterpillar"

Jahaan: "Butterlflies are very pretty and another name for a cocoon is a chrysalis"

Keon: "Caterpillars go into a cocoon"

Chirayu: "The lifecycle goes around and around"

Taran: "The lifecycle will never stop"
