Year 6 Team: Maliq Attah, Asher Lamazan, Aarush Wangoo, Aqeel Khan, Henry Farquharson

On Tuesday 7th June Mr Padfield and Mr Bartley took a representative team from Years 4, 5 & 6 to Norman Park in Bromley for this year’s ISA London South District Athletics Championships. Elmhurst boys were entered into all of the events which included: Long Jump, High Jump, Cricket Ball Throw, sprints and middle distances. I have been taking school teams to this Athletics Meeting for many years and find it incredibly enjoyable; the pupils gain fantastic experience as well as an opportunity to represent Elmhurst in a district level competition.

The performance level is always very high and any competitor must win their event to gain selection for the London South representative team at the ISA National Championships. It is, as a consequence, very exciting to watch your team mates in their events and encourage them to their best personal performance on the day. The boys all embraced this attitude and it was wonderful to see the camaraderie amongst the team and the support each Elmhurst boy gave to each other.

I was very proud of all of our boys on the day for the way they conducted themselves on and off the track. They each demonstrated the ethos of Elmhurst in their individual performances and as a team. They were determined, resilient and encouraging of each other demonstrating a wonderful togetherness and team spirit. Every competitor enjoyed their events and all performances reflected their best on the day.

Successes came from:

Maliq Attah who won Silver in the Year 6 80m sprint, for the second year in a row!

Henry Farquharson who won Gold in the Year 6 Cricket Ball Throw

Temu Liburd-Appiah who won Gold in the Year 5 High Jump

Ashvin Jeyanandhan who won Gold in the Year 4 Cricket Ball Throw

Well done to all of the Elmhurst boys who participated. The three Gold medallists will be representing Elmhurst and the London South team at the ISA National Athletics Championships at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham on Wednesday 29th June.

We wish them every success in this special event!

-Mr T. Padfield
