Year 4’s Forest School Updates

Elmhurst School for Boys

1st October 2015 | Forest School

Year 4 have been thoroughly enjoying their Forest School sessions this term and have been sharing their views on their favourite things about Forest School.

Read some of Year 4’s work:

Fantastic Forest School!

I always look forward to Tuesdays as it is Forest School. I very much enjoyed making mud sculptures such as deers and mud monsters! It is so much fun digging the squelchy mud until I start to slowly sink deeper and deeper into the ground! It allowed me to be creative and imaginative.

The best part is playing ‘Eagle Eye’. In this game we find a hiding spot before Mrs Mawanda catches us. Mrs Mawanda will drum a pattern and close her eyes; when she changes the pattern she will open her eyes and anyone caught is out of the game.

During the ‘wolf and sheep’ game, the wolf (Mrs Lloyd) would howl every few paces and the sheep (the students) would hide and ‘Baa’ back. During this game, Niam whispered to me, “I am terrified!”

I have learnt many wonderful things in Forest School about our outside environment. Some of these include, the lifecycle of leaves, which things are good for campfires, which berries are good to eat and those that are not so good! The most interesting fact I learnt is what animals would like to have in their dens. For example, a fox likes to have soft, smooth items.

Forest School Adventure!

Forest School is an adventure we have each Tuesday, whatever the weather. It’s fun Tuesday!

I’ve enjoyed the Elmhurst Challenge, because it’s a challenge where you have to balance on the tree without slipping. Guess what? I’m good at it!

I’ve experienced putting up tents, so that when it rains we can go inside, away from the rain. I’ve loved making bows and arrows, like a big man.

There were many things to do in the forest. The best thing was playing in the mud, with all my friends. Ayaan said “aaaaa there is a mud monster in the forest” because Freddie looked like a terrifying monster.

Mrs Mawanda told us to try before you ask for help, because Forest School is an adventure, just like life, you can do it if you try!
