Bedtime Stories

Elmhurst School for Boys

One of my cherished memories of my children when they were young, was of sharing bedtime stories.

I was delighted recently to read an article in the Daily Telegraph by Chris Evans, championing bedtime stories and the benefit they have for parents and children alike. In our busy lives the opportunity to grab an oasis of calm at the end of each day to share what can be a magical experience, even for just a few minutes, should be grabbed with both hands.

I spoke about this at assembly on Monday morning and I set all the children a task......to ensure one of their parents read them a bedtime story, yes it's my fault!

I was pleased to be approached by several Year 5 boys this morning and they were delighted to tell me that they had done as I asked and they had indeed shared bedtime stories with their parents. They were eager to tell me the stories and of how much they had enjoyed them.

So my thanks to those parents that have done this and I hope that as many of you as possible have an experience that the Telegraphs article describes as "sharing the magic of books is as enriching for parents as it is for children"
