Elmhurst Election

Elmhurst School for Boys

4th February 2015 | Headmaster's Blog

Over the last few weeks in our Monday assemblies, we have been talking about democracy and what it means to us.
In the light of the 800th Anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta, the 50th Anniversary of Winston Churchill’s funeral and the forthcoming General Election in May it seems a very fitting subject.
Many of the boys at school have stood in “elections” for the School Council. The boys have had to give reasons why they should represent their class on the council and the children in their classes have voted for their favoured candidate. Once appointed the boys then have to take classmates suggestions to School Council meetings and feedback to their classes on the progress throughout the term.
So with the General Election taking place in May, we felt it would be fun to have our own General Election!
As we progress towards May, we will have a number of opportunities for boys to put themselves forward to run as potential candidates in the Elmhurst Election to be…….”Headmaster for the Day”.
I am looking forward to seeing who will stand for election and I am also looking forward to having a day off!
