Football Season 2010 – 2011
Elmhurst School have done brilliantly, especially our U11 team who are League winners and went undefeated. We play like Barcelona with great passing and dazzling runs. Elmhurst U11s also competed in the 5-a-side London South Football League, where we were runners up. That put us through to the 5-a-side Nationals representing London South.
Top scorers:
Anthony Jacobs 25 goals
Malachi Goldson 18 goals
Aaron Ibe 21 goals

Football Inter-House Tournament
Wednesday 27th January 2011
The Northerly wind, sweeping in over the somewhat rain-soaked fields of the Old Whitgiftians could not dampen the boys’ spirits on this chilly Wednesday afternoon.
The anticipation amongst the boys was clear to see. This much talked about annual event, originally scheduled for November, but cancelled due to the “wrong kind of snow”, was finally about to commence.
The well-honed squads of Anderson, Peachell, Squire and Scott were eagerly warming up whilst the house captains overlooked the draw for the two semi-finals; Peachell drew Scotts whilst Anderson faced Squire. A big cheer went up as the pairings were made. This always happens, for reasons still unbeknown to me…
Mr Harrington and Mr Wilks, our very unbiased referees, blew their whistles simultaneously and the two matches got under way at a blistering pace. Two hours later the 2011 Elmhurst Inter-House Football champions would be crowned!
Semi - finals
On pitch 2, Scotts came out fastest and very shortly the first goal of the afternoon was scored by the blues, through their lone striker, Meikhi Hemans. One – nil down, Peachell did not let the early set back affect their mood and determination to get back into the game. Soon afterwards, Joseph Mattikoyya, the power house of the Peachell midfield, stunningly equalised to 1-1.
At the same time, a loud cheer was heard from pitch 1, where Squire took a surprising 1- 0 lead against the tournament favourites, Anderson, through a clinical finish by the industrious Anthony Jacobs.
Half time scores: Peachell 1 Scott 1, and Anderson 0 Squire 1.
In the second halves the teams battled heroically with some strong tackling and with little room for fancy skills and finesse; winning seemed to be the clear number one objective in the increasingly adverse weather conditions.
Before long, it became evident that in spite of strong resistance, the Squire boys found it harder and harder to keep the experienced Anderson team at bay. Eventually, their valiant defence, led by the hard working pair, Jayden Forbes and Kevon Alexander, was breached. After two quick and well-taken goals by captain Malachi “Marvellous” Goldson and the nifty left footed , Ayaaz “The Wizard” Razvi, Anderson were able to hold on and finish as the winning team with a narrow and hard fought victory.
Final score: Anderson 2, Squire 1.
Back on pitch 1, Peachell and Scott were involved in a thrilling second half with plenty of scoring opportunities at both ends. The winning goal finally came at the death of the match through the composed Peachell striker, Zeeshan “The Zidane” Ali, to the great delight of his jubilant team mates.
Final score: Peachell 2, Scott 1.
3rd/4th Play off:
The two unfortunate and losing semi finalists, Scott and Squire, had little time to re-group before it was time to decide which team was going to claim the 3rd place in this years’ competition.
The now increasingly driving rain surely must have felt extra uninviting and noticeable for these two, slightly dejected teams, as they were lining up for the kick-off.
On the contrary, any thoughts of going through the motions and quickly getting back to the warmth of the changing room (not!) were quickly dismissed, as both teams started the match strongly, with a clear appetite for a grand finale. Scott, particularly showed good composure in front of goal and went two up through two well taken goals by Meikhi “Quick-Silver” Hemans.
Squire, who showed plenty of resilience in their earlier semi-final against Anderson, made a couple of substitutes and came out rejuvenated for the 2nd half. The change of tactics brought imminent success and two goals in quick succession. Squire had pulled back to 2 – 2 with goals from Anthony Jacobs and Deinma Koko.
The teams then took it in turns to go into the lead and to equalise. When 5 minutes remained the score was 4 – 4 (goals by S Dolor, T Talabi, P Gundi). The game was very much in the balance and a penalty shoot-out was looming…
BUT THEN … came the last and decisive goal of this most entertaining match. After some great inter-play, Anthony “the goal machine” Jacobs received the ball outside the box. With a deft touch he passed the last Scott defender and coolly slotted the ball into the back of the net. The heavenly pointing goal scorer was instantly mobbed by even more delirious Squire team-mates.
Final score: Squire 5, Scott 4. (Squire clinches 3rd place.)
The Final
After a somewhat stuttering performance in the semifinal, The Anderson Red Army was in no mood for mercy in the final against a Peachell team which in the initial stages of the game seemed to show too much respect for their powerful opponents. Anderson looked menacing as their strong midfield, consisting of Malachi Goldson, Ayaaz Razvi and Aaron Ibe, immediately took control of proceedings and pressed their opponents relentlessly. The Peachell boys were pinned back outside their own penalty area for most of the first half as Anderson created chance after chance. In spite of some brave defending and goalkeeping, “The Greens”, organised by the excellent pair Andrew Watson and Joseph Mattikoyya, could not stop the red avalanche. By the time Mr Harrington’s whistle blew for half time, the score was Peachell 0, Anderson 4. (Goals by: M Goldson 2, J Silverstone, A Razvi)
In spite of the match virtually being over, the Peachell boys never stopped competing, playing for their pride and only conceded one more goal from Malachi Goldson, for the remainder of the second half.
As the final whistle blew, the rain stopped, and so did the boys who had eagerly represented their houses for almost two hours – they were all muddy, some happier than others, but they all made a good picture as they shook hands with each other, congratulating and commiserating as they walked off the battle scared pitches of Old Whitgiftians. The Elmhurst 2011 Inter-house Football Tournament was over with the Anderson team as the worthy Champions!
Well done to all the boys and a big thank you to Mr Harrington and Mr Wilks for their efforts as valiant referees!

2010/11 Cricket match reports to follow...
Taran, Clement and I qualified to swim in the national ISA swimming gala which took place in Coventry.
When we got there we walked to poolside with the London South team. It was a long wait until Taran was told he's about to swim his 50 metre breast stroke in the Olympic pool which seemed never-ending! He magnificently finished fourth.

Next up was Clement in a medley relay. His team brilliantly finished first but unfortunately were disqualified!
After an everlasting wait I went up for my freestyle relay. The team swam marvellously coming first! We went up on the podium to receive our gold medals. I felt awesome.
Finally Clement swam in the freestyle relay. His team just missed out coming first and achieved a second, winning a silver medal!

The whole of swim squad went to Crystal Palace; we swam in the fifty metre pool. When we arrived it was quite chilly. But we still wanted to swim in the colossal pool.
The temperature in the pool was reasonably warm. After swimming a length, we were all exhausted and realised the difference between twenty-five metres and fifty metres!! However, after a few lengths we started to get used to the length of the pool. We did our warm up, then we began to do relays.
Before our swim, we saw (on the way in) the Great Britain handball team. Unfortunately, we couldn’t get an autograph!
We all enjoyed the experience of swimming in a fifty metre pool. Thanks to Mr South, Mrs Prior and Mrs Lazell.

Yesterday morning a group of very happy boys crowded into my office. They had all just returned from the Crystal Palace National Sports Centre, where they had their first experience of swimming on a full size 50 meter Olympic Pool!
Several of our boys are competing in the ISA National Swimming Championships on Saturday in Coventry, where they will represent the ISA London & SE Region. Mrs Prior arranged this trip to give the boys some extra training ahead of Saturday, but also to experience how different it is to swim in a full sized pool.
To say the boys, Mrs Prior and Mrs Lazell were "buzzing" on their return, would be an understatement!!
Best of luck to those boys who are swimming in Coventry at the weekend. Thank you to Mrs Prior for arranging such a worthwhile trip.
17th November 2011
On Saturday Mrs Prior led a team of 12 boys to the ISA London Regional Gala, held at Trinity School.

Under 11 Rugby v Trinity B
The U11 A Rugby team went over to play a very strong and well trained Trinity B side. Earlier in the year a Whitgift side was defeated in the hands of Elmhurst. They went into the match with confidence. Elmhurst drew first blood and dominated the whole of the first half, but a sloppy piece of defending granted Trinity a try. Tries kept on coming and the score was 57 – 7 to Elmhurst .
