If you ask your son what the assembly was about this morning, he’ll tell you I gave out chocolate. Well, yes I did – but there was more to it than that!
We were over at St Peter’s (next to the old site of Elmhurst School), and I used the opportunity of the big building to talk about communication. In particular, how communicating is a two-way process.
With boys positioned in the furthest corners of the church, we ascertained that a communicator has to speak clearly and be able to be heard; a listener has to be able to hear and to listen carefully. Finally, most importantly, you have to have the whole story – be able to hear the whole message not just a part. The final, complete message was about (you guessed it!) chocolate…
My favourite communication story involves an Indian campaign and the Latin word ‘peccavi’. Email me if you don’t know it…
