What do you enjoy most about being Head Boy at Elmhurst?
I enjoy the level of responsibility because as Head Boy, you have to set a good example to the other boys. My favourite thing was handing out the prefect ties to the other prefects in Year 6 because I had an enormous sense of pride.
What privileges have you earned?
I’m allowed to do a speech but it’s a bit nerve-wracking. For example, the speech I had to do at the Christmas Carol Concert, which was really fun but I had butterflies in my stomach because I was tense about having to speak in front of loads of people.
Has anything you’ve done at school helped you with that?
Public speaking lessons and performing in the English Speaking Board will help me in the future, which will help me make my speech at Speech Day.
How are you feeling about that?
Nervous!
I don’t blame you! Just remember that most of the parents don’t bite!
How do you feel about the new Headmaster, Mr Padfield?
Well, I was delighted when I heard the news because he’s a nice man with good ambitions for the school. He’s good at sports so that helps us. I like the fact that it was someone who knows Elmhurst that got the job because he already knows all the boys.
What advice would you give to the new Head Boy?
Don’t command respect, earn it!
