The Music Department would like to say a huge thank you to Mr Simon Jeffery and Randall, alongside the other amateur and professional musicians, who assembled for Sunday's Summer Fair, celebrating Elmhurst School's 150th anniversary. I have always found that watching live music is incredibly inspirational and many of the boys at the Summer Fair have been asking me questions about the instruments and songs. What’s more, those musicians have agreed to come in next term to lead workshops with some of our boys and we are looking forward to organising more trips out to see live performances.
The peripatetic staff have been continuing to work with boys 1:1 after school and at weekends, to nurture their musical interests and help them to work hard towards quality performances. These lessons not only teach the best of instrument-specific techniques but also revise staff-notation and score-reading, to develop the whole musician. Boys that have piano, drumkit and wind lessons are preparing for a concert on Saturday 6th July at Elmhurst School.
As the academic year is drawing to an end, boys throughout the school are preparing pieces for performance. Music has been a central feature of celebrations in all cultures for thousands of years. Can you remember the last birthday party you went to where "Happy Birthday" wasn’t sung? It brings people together in a joyous union and makes an event feel special. We have already had some lovely comments about the Father’s Day assembly poems, artwork and songs: perfect expressions of love and beautifully delivered by our pupils.
We look forward to the upcoming performance opportunities at Elmhurst, which include:
