Delicious creations in Cookery Club

Elmhurst School for Boys

19th March 2015

Having enjoyed making fairy cakes, 'snakes in the grass' (long, bread 'snakes' in green lettuce 'grass') and jam tarts at Cookery Club, this week the boys were delighted to make their own pizzas and Greek salads. We talked about how to make the pizzas healthy by using lots of different vegetables and encouraged each other to decorate the pitta bread bases with tomatoes, red and white onions and green and red peppers.  While these were cooking, we also made a Greek salad.  We talked about how to use knives safely when preparing ingredients. Then, each of the boys took on a different preparation role, such as decanting olives from jars of brine, cutting up feta cheese and chopping tomatoes, onions and lettuce. Finally, we drizzled a little olive oil on top of our delicious bowls of salad and enjoyed them together.

The boys really enjoyed making and eating the salads and pizza, which were very healthy and easy to make. Hopefully, they will try the recipes again during the upcoming Easter holidays!
