Developments at Elmhurst Next Academic Year

Next academic year sees Mrs Sara Marriott joining Elmhurst as the newly appointed head.

Having spent the last fourteen years teaching and leading in an independent boys’ prep school, Mrs Marriott is familiar with the challenges of driving excellence and achievement in boys’ education. The boys and staff at Elmhurst School for Boys, are rightly proud of our school - passionate about our strengths and being in the fortunate position of being able to focus all our efforts on delivering the best education for boys – shaping curriculum, teaching and learning to ensure every boy is given the opportunity to unlock his potential. Mrs Marriott intends to ensure that we continue to pursue that goal.

Mrs Marriott already has such a progresive vision for the school taking on board to the voice of both boys and staff alike. With ideas taken from the boys ideas, and the guidance of our Head of Sport, Mr. Venier, Vitality Play has been commissioned to resurface and improve our play space. A new astroturf area will be installed during the Summer holidays, ready for pupils to enjoy in September!

We will also be making some small but important adjustments to school life. The main office will be moving into the current Headmaster’s study in No. 46 to provide better waiting facilities for visitors and space for boys needing support through the day.

Our Y3 & Y4 teaching spaces will be re-sited into the middle school building (No. 46) allowing our senior pupils in Y5 & Y6 to have some ‘grown up’ space in No. 44. This will support our transition journey, preparing pupils for their journey to senior schools. It will also give us a chance to provide a few privileges for our older pupils too – more to come on that.

In the Autumn Term, we will be introducing parent representative forums. Each class has been asked to nominate a representative who will join the meeting on a termly basis, enabling good communications throughout the school.

Whilst we live in challenging times, at Elmhurst our aim is to ensure your son’s educational experience is stimulating and engaging, setting him on a strong path for future success.

After eight happy and successful years at Elmhurst Mr Padfield will be continuing on to his next step in his career. Since stepping into the role of Head in 2017 Mr Padfield’s leadership has had a positive effect on the school, his hand can be seen in many of the initiatives that have improved the school. In these recent challenging times, he has also led the excellent provision, be it in a remote learning environment or in returning to a dynamic and exciting school-based education in spite of restrictive protocols. We are therefore very grateful to Mr Padfield as, under his stewardship, we have a school which has changed with the times, building on its traditional strengths of strong pastoral care and high academic achievement.

We wish him all the best whilst looking forward to what the future holds for Elmhurst School for Boys.
