The golden Autumn sunshine has been shining on Forest School over the last couple of weeks and the Woods have really been breathtaking! If anything they have provided us all with an enormous sense of well being. Year 1 explored the season of Autumn last week and went on a leaf hunt to find out how many different colours of leaf they could find and other woodland treasure. We love sweet-chestnuts! The boys made some beautiful pictures using the things they had found. They then all worked together to make a living, moving model of all the parts of a tree... the boys being the roots were particularly noisy as thy had to make sucking sounds while lying on the ground!
Year 4 made 3D maps of the Camp this week using natural materials and hid treasure which they then marked on their map for others to find. Last week apart from having s'mores (marshmallows in chocolate biscuits) and hot chocolate, the boys had lots of time to initiate their own ideas. This is a wonderful opportunity for the creativity and inventiveness of boys to flow! How often do we get time to spend with our friends 'playing' in such a wonderful environment? The boys are able to make connections with their learning, experiment with ideas, problem solve and essentially understand relationships and build lasting memories. There were shelters, the ultimate challenge (balancing on logs, swinging from branches), bows and arrows, mud monsters and the most amazing River Nile which was dug through the camp and sourced from the muddy place using a very complex water collection system indeed!
