Get to know our new Year 4 Teacher

We look forward to welcoming our new Year 4 Teacher, Mr Chris Davis, to Elmhurst in September.

Read our Q&A with Mr Davis, below:

What attracted you to the role at Elmhurst?

The role was advertised as a Maths or English specialist with Sport and Maths and PE are both subjects that I enjoy and have plenty of experience with. I also wanted to experience what it is like to teach in an independent school as it would come with different challenges that I may not be used to. This will help me to develop further in my career as a teacher.

What skills and experience can you bring to Elmhurst?

I completed my Teacher Training in two secondary schools in Oxford where I taught Maths to pupils from Year 7 up to Sixth Form. Since then, I have worked in a state primary school in West Norwood. During my time there, I ran a variety of after school clubs ranging from sports such as football and cricket, to more creative clubs such as woodwork and Lego club. I also ran the Year 6 after school Maths booster classes to help pupils reach their potential in their exams.

Why did you want to become a teacher?

I have always enjoyed working with children - I have found that it is always very rewarding. I want to make a difference and be a positive influence on other people’s lives.

What’s the best thing about being a teacher?

The children! Their laughter and smiles. Being a part of that special moment when they learn something new, and the memories you create and share with them. Also, unlike most jobs, you get to go to work every day and experience something new.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?

In my spare time, I enjoy playing football. I play for a football team and during the summer months, I play football in the park every week with a group of friends. I also enjoy travelling to new places and will often go abroad during school holidays to explore and experience new things.
