Here at Elmhurst, we pride ourselves on equipping boys with the skills they need to excel in the 21st Century.
As Computer Programming gains popularity and becomes of increasing importance in the Primary curriculum, we have been exploring ways of introducing additional Computer Science concepts and approaches to pupils’ learning, in a fun and interactive way.
We are delighted to be running a new Physical Computing and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) Club, in collaboration with microGeeks, an organisation aiming to encourage children into computer programming and Physical Computing with STEM activities.
The club is currently running for pupils in Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, providing boys with the opportunity to gain new skills in the area of Physical Computing - using computer programming to interact with real-world objects or devices.
Whilst engaging in basic coding, the boys will be developing essential 21st Century skills as they collaborate with their peers and communicate with one another, talking through processes and ideas, as well as enhancing their critical thinking skills and creativity, through problem-solving challenges.
At Physical Computing and STEM Club, pupils will have access to a variety of programming software, such as Scratch programming, BBC micro:bit Block Editor, JavaScript and Lego WeDo programming.
