In Reception, the children have been learning the sounds, action and formation for ‘i’ and ‘n’. They also thought of many words beginning with these sounds.
For the sound ‘i’ the boys were introduced to Inky the Mouse, who escaped from his cage and spilled ink all over the table. The boys practiced the formation of the letter ‘i’ by saying, “down the body, dot for the head” and writing the letter all over a piece of cloth. The boys were cheeky just like Inky the Mouse and spilled ink all over the cloth.
They also learned about the ‘n’ sound, like when an aeroplane flies. The boys practiced the formation for ‘n’ on a piece of paper and said, “down Nobby and over his net”. They loved folding the paper into an aeroplane and seeing how far it could fly out in the garden.
At home: To support your son’s learning at home, you may review the formation and sound of all the letters we have learned so far: s, a, t, p, i, n. Once your son is confident with these sounds, you may use flash cards to sound out words using these six sounds.
Coming up, the boys will be learning “c”, “k”, and “e”. In Maths, they will be learning about rectangles and continuing on with numbers up to seven.
