This week in Reception the boys have been learning about positional language. We made a class book based on the story, “Where’s Spot?” There was a very exciting obstacle course outside where the boys went over, under, through and around various obstacles. This was very fun!
Watch a video of Reception completing the obstacle course:
The boys are also continuing their work on adding using number lines and beginning to write take away sums. Reception boys are beginning to learn about time and we had various one minute challenges where the boys tried to see how many times something could be done in one minute, compared to one second or one hour.
The boys are continuing to work on their very own non-fiction books about different types of transport. They are writing independently about each type of transport and writing labels in their books. The boys in Reception are also learning the ‘ng’ and ‘nk’ sounds.
To support your son’s learning at home, you may review the formation and sound of all the letters we have learned so far and numbers to twenty. You can play different games with your son, such as hiding a teddy beside, behind, under, etc. different objects. Also you can try your very own one minute challenges at home. Your son can add and take away using objects at home and practice writing the sum down. Please continue to encourage your son to write for real purposes. We are supporting the boys to leave finger spaces and full stops in their writing. If your son does any amazing work at home, please feel free to add it to his learning file for the teachers to see.
