Rishan Shankar has achieved a gold medal in the Independent Schools Association (ISA) National Swimming Competition, held at the London Aquatics Centre, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, on Saturday 1st December.
Rishan, aged nine, was selected to represent Elmhurst School, following qualification through the Regional Finals.
Against fierce competition from children from schools across the country, the young swimmer took to the Olympic pool in front of around 3,000 spectators, to take gold in the Under 10 Boys 50-metre Backstroke.
Head Teacher, Tony Padfield, said: “Here at Elmhurst, Swimming forms a key part of the broad Sports curriculum offered to pupils. In addition to regular swimming lessons, our boys have many opportunities to participate in competitions and events each year. It was a truly amazing day and a wonderful opportunity for Rishan to compete at this level and to swim in the Olympic pool. Congratulations to Rishan, we are extremely proud of his achievement.”
