Read Solomon's report following the U8 Football Tournament on 12th March:
On Saturday 12th March Elmhurst U8 ‘A’ Squad consisting of Freddie, Dylan, Lucas, Aral, Kartik, myself, Ryan and Yipeng, went to Lingfield Notre Dame to compete against other schools which were:
On the day, the ground was soft and muddy. Our first match was against the defending champions, Lingfield Notre Dame. This was a very exciting match. In the first half we played very well. Unfortunately Notre Dame scored the first goal but our team kept on trying, however the score remained 1-0 at the end of the first half.
In the second half Elmhurst dug deep and equalised from a terrific shot from Freddie. Late in the second half I was fouled. I then took the free kick which I lobbed to Dylan and with great skill, he scored our second goal, just before the whistle blew for full time.
The team was over the moon with the result.
The second match was against Royal Russell who were a well drilled team. In the first half Elmhurst played very well and were able to keep the score at 1-0 at the end of the first half.
However in the second half, although our team played very well, Royal Russell scored an additional 3 goals, with the match ending 4-0 to Royal Russell.
The third match was against Oakfield. The team was a little jaded and tired to compete in the soft, muddy conditions, after our gritty performance against Royal Russell. We subsequently lost the match 3-0. The team was very disappointed at the result because we thought we could do better against Oakfield.
At the end of the tournament medals were awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, with certificates given to 4th place.
The final positions in the tournament were:
It was a very enjoyable day for pupils and parents that attended.
I would like to say a big thank you to Mr Kent who has helped us all to become a team and to progress in our football skills.
