Super Citizens, Help Keep Joshua’s Spoons Stirring

Our origins and our future

When Joshua started out over 20 years ago, it was at the request of communities who wanted to make sure all children were looked after and well-fed as a response to the HIV and AIDS epidemic.  Over the years, their work has grown and with our support, they’ve helped thousands of children get a better start in life by making sure they eat a daily meal and have the opportunity for early years education.  Once again, a virus – this time COVID-19 - is putting pressure on these communities.

The importance of a bowl of porridge

Joshua currently helps communities to feed 1250 children aged under 6 years old with a daily meal of likuni phala - a fortified porridge. This nutrient rich porridge helps children grow as they should and prevents them from becoming malnourished. The porridge is cooked by volunteers in Joshua's community-based childcare centres. When centres are closed, they provide take-home packs to vulnerable families. It’s essential to make sure children get the best start in life. For many children, this is the only meal they get that day.

Can you help keep Joshua's spoons stirring?

Joshua is launching an appeal to help continue this vital work. Small charities like Joshua have been severely affected by funding cuts over the last 12 months There are many ways you can help us keep the spoons stirring whether it’s through donating, setting up a regular donation, undertaking a fundraising challenge or organising a fundraising event or by simply sharing with others about Joshua's work. Every little helps.

A donation of £10 provides a daily bowl of porridge for a month for a child attending one of our community-based childcare centres.
