The U11’s Perform with ‘grit’!

Elmhurst School for Boys

3rd February 2017 | Key Stage 2

Team: Joshua M-K, Temilade S, Oscar S, Roan E, Ethan S, Temu L-A, Joseph D-B

The Under 11 Football team have demonstrated clear improvements in their performances in the last two fixtures. Firstly, Elmhurst was invited to St. David’s School to participate in a 6-a-side friendly game. Traditionally, St. David’s have had strong football sides at U11 level and always provide us with an excellent challenge. On this occasion we were able to select Temu L-A after a lengthy lay off with injury. He and Joseph D-B took control of the midfield and it was soon apparent that Elmhurst was on top in the game. With support from the wide players, Roan and Ethan, the chances to score began to arrive for our two main forward players. Ultimately, both Joseph and Temu scored the goals that gave Elmhurst the victory.

Confidence is very important in sport and so the team went into their next Croydon League game against Ridgeway School with this important win still prevalent in their minds. Ridgeway have a very good side and they had been on a five game unbeaten run in the League before our match. The first half was a very close fought battle and when Ridgeway scored seconds before the referee blew the half-time whistle, the Elmhurst boys needed lifting. We changed the formation slightly at half-time pulling Temu back into the midfield and sending Joseph up to be the striker and this formation made an immediate impact; Temu started to control the midfield, working diligently to retain the ball and supplying Joseph with the opportunities to score. The game finished Ridgeway 1-3 Elmhurst with notable performances from Temilade in defence and Roan on the right wing alongside a brilliant team performance, especially in the second half, including the Hat Trick from Joseph.

These performances reflect the values we promote at Elmhurst School with pride; resilience, determination, grit, teamwork and a sense of togetherness. Well done boys! Let’s keep working hard together for the last few games of the season!
