Year 1 embark on their Forest School Adventures

Elmhurst School for Boys

30th April 2015

This week, Year 1 enjoyed their first Forest School session of the term. The boys were all very excited to be back in the woods and spotted plenty of signs of Spring, including beautiful bluebells.

The boys were reminded about how to explore the woods safely, how to work together and to appreciate and respect their surroundings.

We looked out for signs of the Choo Choo people in the woods and thought about how the imaginary tribe might be using different materials and areas, as their home. The boys also revisiting the elm tree sapling that they planted in Littleheath Woods back in the Autumn term, as part of ‘The Great British Elm Experiment’, which is growing well.

Year 1 also enjoyed building small homes and villages using mud, sand, leaves and twigs, as well as working together to make special friendship bracelets out of coloured string.

Read some comments from Year 1:

Ayan - “I enjoyed when we played ‘1-2-3- where are you?’ because there are loads of places to hide like in between the trees!”

Mikaeel - “I liked making the dragon breath friendship bracelets. We had to use two different colours of string and twist them together with our partners.”

Cameron - “I liked making the mud village!”

Niyam - “I didn’t like the mud at first but once I put my hand in it was fun!”

Rayan - “I liked using the binoculars for bird watching. I hope to see some sparrows.”

Alan - “I enjoyed making a river out of sand, then I turned it into a subway! I also enjoyed learning about all the plants like stinging nettles.”

Ishaan - “I liked making a mud island and sticking leaves and twigs and sticks on top.”
