22nd January 2015
Year 1 have been reflecting on an exciting morning when they planted Elmhurst’s very own elm tree sapling in Littleheath Woods, as part of ‘The Great British Elm Experiment’. On a cold, crisp morning we met 'The Friends of Littleheath Woods'; we dug a large hole and planted our tree.
The whole school was then presented with a birth certificate for the elm tree in our end of term assembly. Through our weekly Forest School sessions, we look forward to monitoring the progress of our tree forever!
You can find out more about the Great British Elm Experiment here. You can also read a profile on Elmhurst’s tree by using the tree ID #1537 ‘Elmhurst School Elm’.
Planting this tree means that Elmhurst is now part of Littleheath Woods. Through our Forest School sessions, we have grown to love and respect the Woods and we are so happy to be putting something back into it.
All the boys will be going to visit the tree (hopefully they will take their families along!) and we look forward to contributing to the long term sustainability of all the woodlands we are so lucky to have around Croydon.
