As part of our whole-school focus on enhancing well-being and developing pupils' awareness of themselves and the world around them, Year 2 have been introduced to Mindfulness during their latest Forest School session.
The boys lay on the grass and focused on their senses to relax and unwind, following a short meditation:
Breathe in, breathe in, breathe out
Look up at the sky, the deep blue,
The floating clouds
Breathe
Feel the soft green grass on your fingers
Sink your body slowly into the grass
Your toes, your legs, your back, your head
Following this, Year 2 went into the woods and stopped at certain points to use all their senses and describe what they felt. The boys came up with some amazing descriptions:
Such a valuable part of Forest School is living and being in the moment. One of my favourite sayings is "Wherever you go, there you are" and this is very much what we do when we are in the woods. We notice even the smallest creatures and the changes in nature throughout the year and marvel with awe and wonder.
When you are out and about during the Easter holidays, why not take time to stop, empty your mind of stress and use your senses to explore your surroundings? You will feel amazingly revived!
