In Year 2, we have been learning about the effects of exercise on our bodies as part of our Science topic, called ‘Take Care’.
Previously, we focused on healthy eating and discussed making sensible choices about the food that we eat. We have since moved on to trying out different types of exercise that can help to keep our bodies healthy. The boys really enjoyed our whole-school sponsored event on Wednesday, during which they performed different circuit exercises to music! After this, they could feel their hearts beating faster, feel the change in their body temperature and feel the difference in their energy levels! After this, they were able to understand and explain why these things happen during exercise.
The purpose of this activity was to help the boys to develop an understanding of how exercise helps to keep our bodies healthy and promote an enjoyment of sport and exercise.
At home: To support your son’s learning at home, you may like to discuss this area of our topic with him in more detail. This website has some great information and suggestions for staying active: http://kidshealth.org/kid/stay_healthy/fit/work_it_out.html
