Year 3 showed true resilience, determination and grit in the face of constant sleety rain and hail at their recent Forest School session.
The boys dug up different types of soil to make an upside down soil sandwich, showing the different layers, from bedrock to topsoil and organic layer. They discovered that soil from deeper layers is found around the roots of trees that have fallen down. This contains interesting rocks and possibly even fossils.
We then took shelter under a tarpaulin, lit a small fire with wood that the boys had split and enjoyed some hot chocolate, before returning to school.
Back at school, Year 3 have been learning about the features of a good newspaper report, such as a catchy headline and interesting words to capture and keep the readers' interest. Chirayu was our roving reporter and interviewed some of the boys about their discoveries at Forest School.
