Year 4’s Forest School Adventures

Year 4 have had a fantastic time at Forest School, this half term. For our outdoor learning challenges, the boys have been making rivers in the mud and learning about the different features and courses of a river. They have also been learning how to do lashings and had a go at lashing together sticks to make triangles, which we added together to make 3D shapes. We are now going to use these triangles to make Christmas Trees for our school Christmas cards, in Art.

During their 'Go with flow’ Forest School time, Year 4 have enjoyed the opportunity to plan, explore and experiment with their own ideas. These have included the reenactment of World War 2, Woodland Cricket, storytelling, making swings, camps and cooking bread on the campfire. All in a stress-free, beautiful environment.

On Tuesday this week, Year 4 went up to our basecamp at Beech Tree Glade in Littleheath Woods and it really was magical. There was a fine mist across the camp and rays of sun pouring onto the golden woodland floor. We made up a poem together, which we did not manage to write down, but Anotida went home and kindly wrote this...

The Forest

The golden leaves are crisp brown
Just look!
Doesn’t it look amazing!

Look at the beautiful trees with their tough bark
Look at the minibeasts and the beetles
It is the Forest that produces these things
It is the Forest

The beautiful, tough, and amazing forest
Sweet chestnuts and apples
They are produced by the Forest
Created by God

Hear the birds cheeping
Just listen!
The robins, the pigeons, the blackbirds
Coming together in the Forest in diversity to sing to us

So feel free!
Don’t cut off the trees
They have a right to live
To breathe out oxygen
For us
For the insects
They even have a right to live.

Most of all
Trust Respect and Teamwork is a good thing
It makes me sing!
All these things I like about the Woods
But most of all I like to sit at the camp
Telling stories like I am doing now.

- Anotida M, Year 4
