Year 4’s Forest School Adventures

Elmhurst School for Boys

22nd September 2017 | Forest School

Year 4 have had a brilliant start to the year at Forest School. In Science we have focussed on leaf classification and human impact on the environment and we have had a wonderful time initiating and following our imaginations during ‘go-with-the-flow’ time.

Here are a few of Year 4's comments:

Ayan:

"Today 4C set off to go to Forest School with Miss Cole, Miss Lloyd and Mrs Mawanda. Our task was to get into groups and find different leaves such as beech tree, sweet chestnut, ashes and oak tree.

When we were collecting leaves we noticed most of them were soft and prickly. Another interesting fact at Littleheath Woods I noticed, there were more oak trees compared to other trees.

Soon after, we had free time and Joshua and I wanted to build an amazing rocking chair, so we started picking up some thick wood and put on our safety gloves, then we used the saw to cut wood. Unfortunately it was time to go back to school. We were upset, however we knew we could continue next week."

Maadhesh:

"After the rules we do a little bit of exploring and learning either on trees, animals or nature, and when we get back it’s the best part, PLAYTIME!!!! This is the time when we go wild with our imagination and use the tools which is fun. We built dens, played mud kitchen and loads more!"

Cameron:

"Me and my friends built a fort and a bench. We had loads of fun! We learnt about leaves and sweet chestnuts. Holly has spikes. We also learned about trees and we picked up litter."

Jojo:

"I learnt how to use a bow saw. I built a tent and it took a long time but finally we got it done."

Cyrus:

"In playtime we were making a den and we made mud cement to stick the sticks together. We found ash, oak, maple and beech tree. I identified oak by seeing the curved edge."
