To mark the centenary of WW1, Year 6 and Year 5 are undertaking a special project to develop their understanding of this important period in History. Mrs Parker-Brown, who has created a fantastic WW1 exhibition at Whitgift School, visited Elmhurst to give boys a greater insight into what life was like for the soldiers on the front line. The boys looked at the causes of the war, as well as a range of first-hand sources and rated them on their reliability.
The boys then were given objects from the period, such as Brodies (WW1 British helmets) blankets and food dishes. They learnt about a typical day in the life of the soldiers and wrote a diary entry imagining they were in the trenches in 1916.
Later this term, the boys will be visiting the exhibition and we encourage parents to visit if they get a chance, as it is very informative and even has a trench!
