Year 5 interview Keshia Thomas

Following their recent visit to the 'Journey to Justice' exhibition, Year 5 asked to be put in touch with Keshia Thomas, one of the people that featured in the exhibition.

At the age of 18, Keshia became famous for protecting a suspected supporter of the Ku Klux Klan, from an angry mob. Keshia was on the front page of Life Magazine and interviewed by Oprah Winfrey. She now gives inspirational talks on the power of human action and the importance of fighting social injustice. Year 5 spoke with Keshia directly via Skype, and this is what they thought:

"Skyping Keshia Thomas was a miracle for 5V as she was able to answer all of our questions about when she was shielding a suspected klansman at the age of 18. It was really exciting to meet her live, and talk to her face to face. We explained why we found her story inspiring and we got the chance to each have a conversation with her and to understand why she stepped in to help the man and how she feels about racism and injustice in the world. She told us that it was the right thing thing to do, that whoever people are they are still human and that we can make a difference in the world if we are brave and courageous like her."
