Year 6 learn about the Refugee Crisis

Tahera Khan came into school today to talk to Year 6 about the Calais Jungle. She told the boys about the weekly trips she makes to Calais with other volunteers she has recruited, and how they help the refugees once they are there. Amongst other things, they make food for the people there, help construct shelters, clear rubbish and sort clothes. Tahera described some of the conditions of living in ‘the jungle’, and how appreciative these families are of help of any kind. She has set up a charity called ‘Just Help’. The boys will be sending messages and putting together shoe boxes containing gifts that will be sent to the refugees. Madame Hargreaves will make a trip to Calais in the next few weeks to deliver the messages and boxes in person, on behalf of Year 6 at Elmhurst School.
