Year 6 have been exploring aspects of the First World War in their integrated learning. In Art they have repurposed cardboard boxes to produce 3D models depicting the horrors of the trenches. They chose to work in small collaborative groups and worked to their own designs.
Some of the boys have also created trees to stick into a collaborative collage of The Sanctuary Woods that have grown on the battlefield of Passchendaele, focusing on how trees grow and branches divide. We all discussed value whilst studying a photograph of the woods in January. The boys went on to draw their trees on the back of coloured paper, in shades ranging in value, from pale grey to black. They finished by making their own poppies on Armistice Day.
