An Explosive Week in Reception

Elmhurst School for Boys

25th January 2019 | Reception

What an explosive week Reception have had. Not only did they create and design their very own volcano from scratch, but they also made it erupt!

At the beginning of the week, the boys had asked to learn about volcanoes. Not only did they discover fun facts, but they also talked about the different elements and the structure of the volcano itself.

The boys started the process by using paper mache for the base. Once it had dried, they then proceeded to paint and decorate their project using paint, pompoms and glitter.

Finally, we used a combination of cupboard ingredients and watched the magic happen right before our eyes. Our experiment was so successful that the boys tried to recreate the experience whilst playing outside.

"We stuck it together with glue so that it would stick to the bottle and then we painted it volcano colours like brown and grey." - William

"Volcanoes are a mountain that burns out lava and we put some type of liquid and water in it and it erupted everywhere!" - Suriyan

"The lava was everywhere, I was happy!" - Rafe
