Elmhurst School for Boys

27th June 2019 | Sport

Elmhurst School has not one but two National Athletics Champions who competed in the Independent Schools Association National Athletics Championships at the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham, last week. Chukweumeka won gold in the Under 11s Shot Put event with a huge throw of 8.90 metres. Javahn also won gold in the Under 9 60metres sprint final. A magnificent effort by both boys. Congratulations to Javahn who also went on to win the Croydon Schools’ Athletics Finals with his 75metres event, beating an unbelievably talented group of boys in the final.

The Year 5 boys and Javahn from Year 4 attended three gifted and talented sports sessions this year. Two of these were at Trinity School and the other at St Mary’s University. The boys gained invaluable insight into self-performance fitness, various skills requirements in sport, working together as a team in different environments and setting good examples in sport. They even managed to have a group discussion with Sean King who took part in the London Olympics (Waterpolo).

Year 3 A and B teams also had a fabulous time playing St David’s School in Purley - both teams even managed to secure a win. Well done, boys!
