Year 3 boys learn about what their bodies need to survive on a desert island

Elmhurst School for Boys

20th September 2019

In science, year 3 learnt about what their bodies need to survive on a desert island. They then created their own desert islands. For this project ideas were given but the artists were encouraged to experiment and discover. Process based art projects like this helps to develop higher level thinking skills critical for 21st century thinkers: problem solving, imagination, innovation, creativity, curiosity, and the ability to question. Children also have the opportunity to use their fine motor and observation skills.  Process based art also helps in building confidence.  Allowing children to make their own decisions and discoveries gives them value.
