In Little Elms, we provide a weekly topic for the boys to increase their knowledge and understanding of the world they live in. We all live in global communities now and it is important to celebrate all the differences and opportunities that are available in the world around us.
Our topics are wide-ranging but we keep to a theme for each half term. This enables the boys' learning to cover a topic in many different ways, allowing them to be more engaged.
This half term we are exploring Festivals and Celebrations. We started with Bonfire Night and this week we have been celebrating Diwali. For our Diwali topic we talked about the story of Rama and Sita. The boys enjoyed dressing up, wearing masks and acting out the story. We also made Diva lamps out of salt dough and for our Expressive Arts Challenge, we made Diwali lanterns. Click here to view photos.
Next week our topic is Thanksgiving followed by Hanukkah and then Christmas. I am sure the boys will continue to enjoy exploring their world through the various festivals.
