Little Elms learn about festivals and celebrations

Elmhurst School for Boys

25th November 2016 | Little Elms Blog

In this half of the term, we have been talking about different festivals and celebrations. We began with Halloween as it was on the first day back. The boys enjoyed making Rice Krispies and Pumpkin Treats in cooking and exploring our potion making role-play area.

Next, we celebrated Bonfire Night with some crafty rockets and Catherine Wheels. The boys learned all about The Gunpowder Plot and why we ‘Remember, remember the 5th of November.’

Following on our cultural journey, we celebrated Diwali and the story of Rama and Sita. We created a puppet theatre in the role play area and the boys recreated scenes from the story. We had lots of colourful art activities including Diva making, hand print elephants and Rangoli painting on leaves. This week we are celebrating Thanksgiving. We baked apple pies in cooking and used sequencing cards to retell the story of Thanksgiving.

Next week we begin Christmas! Beware of glitter!!
