This morning in assembly we spoke about the sad death of Nelson Mandela.
All the boys from Reception to Year 6 have been studying Africa this term and have therefore a better understanding of what Nelson Mandela meant to the whole world.
Nelson Mandela was the dominant world figure of the last 50 years and his power to forgive in the face of terrible injustice should be a lesson to us all.
In amoungst the many quotes from his numerous speeches and interviews are just three to reflect on.......
"The value of our shared reward will and must be measured by the joyful peace which will triumph, because the common humanity that bonds both black and white into one human race will have said to each one of us that we shall all live like the children of paradise...(1994) Nobel Peace Prize
"Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world." ...(2003)
“Death is something inevitable. When a man has done what he considers to be his duty to his people and his country, he can rest in peace. I believe I have made that effort and that is, therefore, why I will sleep for the eternity.” (1996)
