Nurture, Inspire and Celebrate - our Elmhurst ethos. As practitioners we support and enable these three important ideas every day in Little Elms. Nurture in education is an idea that was developed in 1969 in London, by educational psychologist Marjorie Boxall. She saw large numbers of children entering school with social, emotional and behavioral needs. She developed the idea of Nurture Groups to help support these children and enable them to form trusting, positive relationships for the first time in their young lives. Nurture Groups are now in 1,500 schools in the UK and offer the opportunity to experience the early nurturing experiences some children and young people lack.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is a more modern approach to this. In 2006 the British government established the Childcare Act. As a result, the EYFS was written in 2008. It comprises of a set of Welfare Requirements and a set of Learning and Development Requirements, which must be followed by providers of childcare for children below five years of age. The idea behind the EYFS was to celebrate the unique child and provide enabling environments to nurture positive relationships. Following the EYFS in Little Elms ensures that our boys are Nurtured, Inspired and Celebrated each day.
