Little Elms Parent and Son Forest School Picnic

This week, we enjoyed our first Parent and Son Forest School session of the Little Elms school year. We also invited along the parents and boys who will be joining us in Reception next year, to begin to form those important relationships. We met the Little Elms parents and new boys at Littleheath Woods at 12.00pm, and after a short walk through the woods, we all arrived at base.

The first order of the day was to make sure the parents understood the Forest School rules. We all chanted together "Look after yourselves, look after each other and look after the woods." We then explained about the boundaries and why we don’t go past them. Once the Little Elms were sure their parents understood the rules and were not going to wonder off, the fun began! We started with a pre-lunch game of Hide and Seek to get everyone's appetites going.

Next, we all sat down to our picnic together. It was a lovely time to spend with the parents and their sons and a wonderful way for the new boys to interact with their future classmates. After the food was finished and tidied away, we began the Forest School activities. We started with an interactive story about a boy who lost his teddy in the woods and a gigantic bear who found it. With a bit of bad acting my yours truly and Miss lloyd, we got everyone involved in helping Eddie find his teddy, Freddy.

The parents and boys then got involved with a variety of Forest School activities, including climbing, mud kitchen, den building, whittling, campfire building and marshmallow and bread toasting. Fortunately, the weather was on our side, we didn’t lose any parents and everyone had a wonderful time. Enjoy the photos here.
