Elmhurst School for Boys

10th June 2015 | Headmaster's Blog

A group of Year 6 boys have been researching Old Elmhurstian's who fought in both the World Wars.  They have had a visit to the Whitgift School archive and are also receiving help from the archivist at Trinity School.

We were very excited to receive a call from Mr Richard Link who is related to Horace Link.

Horace Link or "Hoddie" as he was known attended Elmhurst during the late 1890's to the early 1900's. He  was a keen diarist and we were really excited to have the loan of his Memoir published in 1919.  The memoir includes passages recalling his time at Elmhurst at the turn of the 20th century and of his experience on Vimy Ridge in May 1916.

Mr Link also loaned some original photographs showing the school in the early 1900's.  Our thanks go to Mr Link for bringing in these items for the boys to look at, they are a real piece of Elmhurst history.

The boys are continuing their research and we will hope to have some further updates before the end of term.
