The benefits of being a part of the Bellevue Group

Elmhurst School for Boys

Being part of the Bellevue Group of schools brings a great many benefits to us, here at Elmhurst. This week I have had the pleasure of leading a team of teachers on a Bellevue Learning Review at Forest Park Preparatory School in Manchester. The Learning Review process involves two days of lesson observations and interviews with staff, pupils and parents. The Reviews are conducted by Bellevue Heads who take teams of experienced teachers from the group into the school. As well as supporting other schools with their Learning Review cycles, Elmhurst also benefits from its own review, each year. Like all independent schools we are inspected by ISI (Independent Schools Inspectorate) for educational quality every six years; however, as part of Bellevue we receive in-depth feedback annually on the quality of teaching and the impact on children’s learning.

As a school, we recognise that our staff are fundamental in enabling us to provide an exceptional learning experience for our boys. One of the benefits of being part of Bellevue Education is the professional development opportunities available to staff. Mrs Neagu is the latest member of Elmhurst staff to attend the Emerging Leaders course delivered by Bellevue. Other staff members including Miss Storm and Mrs Prior have previously benefited from attending this collective training session, whilst Mrs Mawanda is currently attending Bellevue’s Senior Leaders course. All of these opportunities support our staff with ongoing professional development, as well as providing opportunities to meet other professionals within the group with whom they are able to share good practice, ideas and resources.

It is not just our teachers and school leaders who benefit from the support provided by the Bellevue Group. Elmhurst pupils also have many opportunities to participate in shared learning days and events with other schools in the group. Recently, pupils have participated in Collaborative Learning Days focused on Mathematics, English, ICT and other subjects. Last year, Bellevue also organised a Musical Celebration event, providing a wonderful opportunity for our boys to perform a number of pieces and demonstrate their wide-ranging musical talents. Sporting events are also organised and supported by other Bellevue schools such as the Under 7’s tournament recently held at Weston Green School in Thames Ditton.

Elmhurst School is 150 years old this year and it is clear to me that, in the 21st century, we benefit greatly from being part of Bellevue Education, “A Group Of Exceptional Schools.”
