Giving Our Boys a Great Start to Phonics Learning

Posted: 24th September 2021

It was great to see lots of parents attend our annual EYFS Phonics and Reading Workshop. Phonics is such an important part of the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum.

Parents were given information about the importance of Phonics and how we teach the boys at Elmhurst using the Read, Write Inc. Phonics programme. They also had the opportunity to join in with some of the activities that we do with the boys in school!
We discussed the importance of reading, not only decoding words but developing a love of books and being able to read for meaning and talk about the text or story.

Giving the boys a great start to their phonics learning through a range of activities helps the boys in developing their reading and writing.
Working in partnership with our parents also supports the boys in building on and developing a wide range of skills. From blending sounds together to read short words, to confidently answering questions about the characters or events in a story.
Thank you to our parents for working with your boys at home!
