In Little Elms, our days are varied but typically begin with free play indoors and outdoors as the school day starts. All boys have dedicated trays for their coats and bags, with a key part of their routine being to take responsibility to putting their things away when they arrive. Building this independence from the very beginning is one of the reasons our provision is so successful in supporting transition to formal schooling.
All boys are encouraged to develop phonics, writing and speaking skills with every individual being progressed at the right rate for them. Where appropriate, some learners may even join formal school phonics sessions – another excellent preparation step. Specialist teachers take lessons through the week, giving boys the opportunity to work with teachers in the school, building their confidence in taking part and working with others.
Parents are invited in to workshops through the year to learn how best to support their little learners and staff provide daily feedback on boys’ development.
