Once the termly invitations are issued, I often hear from parents on the gate how excited their child is to be joining me for Hot Chocolate shortly. It’s one of our many ways of celebrating the children and something I look forward to immensely.
There are few greater treats as a Headteacher than to spend time with children. If that treat is also accompanied by delicious hot chocolate – what’s not to love! This week, I have been lucky enough to spend time with children from Reception to Y6, drinking hot chocolate and hearing all about life at Elmhurst as a pupil.
Some of ‘my’ greatest ideas come from these moments – the conversations that the children think nothing of but that spark a curiosity and determination in me as a school leader to improve or build on. Our pupils are amazing – they are filled with enthusiasm for the world and see things that as adults we overlook. Of course, you do have to speak ‘child’ to be able to interpret some of the ideas that are voiced but I like to believe that after more than twenty years working with young people I have picked up enough to get by!
There was good discussion about the cricket nets – with our tree surgeon due this weekend, we are excited to finally be able to upgrade the area thanks to the EFA purchased equipment, a 3D printer could be something of interest and plans were muted for a podcast.
I was particularly pleased this week to hear that our lunch improvements (an updated menu is on our website now) are a real hit with the pupils. Who knew that courgette and carrot brownies could taste so fantastic and be a firm favourite. The answer to that is, of course, James, our new Chef, who is bringing some really great flavours to the dining room. We all thought his hot chocolate was pretty delicious too!
