Elmhurst reach final of Royal Russell Hockey Tournament

Posted: 3rd March 2025

Wow! What a performance by the Elmhurst boys this weekend. A number of notable schools took part in the  Royal Russell  tournament and the boys knew that they needed to play at their very best in order to compete at the  highest level. First up were Trinity School which was a very close affair with Elmhurst winning 1-0. Next up were Thomas’s who narrowly reversed our first win and beat the boys 1-0. Elmhurst, also, had most of the play against Whitgift School only to lose at the very end to a penalty corner. The boys then drew 1-1 against Royal Russell School and knew they had to beat Dulwich College in order to get through to the final. Their performance was outstanding and they walked away 1-0 winners.

The final was once again against Whitgift School and what an exciting final it was. Unfortunately Rafe, our centre forward, was forced to retire injured with the scores level and Whitgift School then scored another goal with seconds to go. With silver around their necks  the Elmhurst team were able to leave with their heads held high. Congratulations to all the boys. A job well done and thoroughly deserved.
