At Elmhurst, an important part of the curriculum is enriching our pupils’ learning experiences. We began this term by bringing to life the classic novel ‘Great Expectations’. To start the new term, Year 5 wrapped up warmly for a visit to St Peter’s churchyard for a site specific reading of the first chapter of Great…
As Christmas approaches, the Head of Elmhurst, Mrs Marriott, reflects on a successful first term following the school’s decision to welcome girls in September (2024). Elmhurst has been nurturing young people to become their brilliant best for over 150 years. Originally born of a need to educate the sons of serving military families, Elmhurst is…
There is nothing more festive than our younger children’s nativity performances and this year the production was a real treat for the audience. With a cleverly written script, Y2 excelled as the narrators in the piece. Supported by an engaging Y1 cast who supplied Inn Keepers, Shepherds, Wise Men, Angel Gabriel and the star, the…
Delivering a speech is something even the most confident adult can struggle with, so it was really inspiring to see not one but three of our Elmhurst pupils (Dhruv Y5, Javade Y2 and Ethan Y1) performing in the national finals of the Bellevue Speech competition in front of judge Mark Malley, CEO of Bellevue. Boys got to look at a model and…
Grimm Tales – a captivating exemplification of why drama MUST be in the curriculum Drama is a relatively new curriculum addition to Elmhurst but last night’s incredible production of Grimm Tales was an excellent reminder of just how much it brings to the children’s learning. The cast members had chosen to be part of the…
Last week, our Year 2 pupils enjoyed a big adventure to Beddington Park. It was a beautiful winter’s day which enabled the children to explore all the park has to offer, such as the river and woods. They loved the wildlife feeding station which seemed to be a particular favourite of the squirrels and parakeets!
We were delighted to see parents join their children at the EYFS Maths Workshop earlier this week, especially as the second part of the workshop provided parents with a really valuable opportunity to work with their child on actual activities. Many subsequently downloaded the White Rose app for one minute maths specifically for subitising. “A…
